Protecting Active Skin
By Bratis Peralta Active Skin Takes A Beating Your skin is an amazing reflection your overall health. Its your bodys protective outer shell and one of your most valuable assets. For healthy, vibrant skin, start developing healthy habits early that protect you from the ravages of UVA, UVB and the environment. You only get one set of skin, so your daily habits mean everything. Love The Skin Youre In! Start Simple:
You dont have to spend a million dollars on a complex skin care routine. So before you pull out the plastic to charge hundreds of dollars worth of mostly unnecessary product, evaluate your current skin care regimen. For instance, do you properly cleanse your skin? If youre a woman who wears make-up, be sure to remove ALL of it at the end of the day. No matter what your gender is, you should drink plenty of water, which provides your skin with vital moisture from the inside. If I can give you one piece of advice sunscreen would be it. Even though you wont see overnight results, these little steps add up over time to make a big difference in the overall appearance and elasticity of your skin. Get Started Early!
Its never too late to integrate a solid, efficient skin care routine. If youre an adult, lead by example! You cant replace the skin youre in, but you can still nourish and pamper it to protect it for the future. With the proper care, your skin can stay fresh, vibrant and mostly wrinkle-free as you age. Photo (Sun) Protection
75% of aging and skin damage is caused by exposure to the sun and (UV) radiation. Over time, exposure to UV radiation causes many changes in the skin, including wrinkles, discoloration, freckles or age spots, benign (non-cancerous) growths such as moles, and pre-cancerous or cancerous growths such as melanoma. Another strong reason to use a proper SPF most skin cancer can be directly linked to SUN exposure. There are two main culprits with UV radiation: UVB and UVA. UVB sun rays cause sunburns and UVA rays cause tanning. UVA rays are believed to be responsible for photo-aging, or the damage that occurs to the skin from many years of exposure to the sun, both contribute to the risk of developing skin cancer. Most sunscreen products available in the past were developed to prevent sunburns by blocking UVB rays. Few sunscreen products have been successful in blocking UVA rays (Active Skin Formulas block both). Active Skin should follow a proactive approach to skin care, in conjunction with the use of sunscreens. The recommendations include: Avoiding midday sun between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Wearing wide-brimmed hats
Using a generous amount of Active-SPF on your face, hands and neck and a general sunscreen everywhere on the remainder of your body, reapplying it frequently (every 3-4 hours and 5-6 hours for the Active-SPF)
Using sunscreens that have a sun protection factor (SPF) greater than 15, and that have UVA and UVB coverage
Avoid tanning beds like you would the plague! Taking Care of Mature Skin:
You may have experienced the tell tale signs for quite some time: texture changes in the skin, wrinkling, irregular pigmentation (coloration) or inelasticity. You may have enlarged sebaceous (oil) glands. Sometimes, precancerous and cancerous lesions can occur with aged and photo aged skin. Sunscreens and sun protection are important to prevent further progression of photo aging.
Dont fool yourself: your skin requires accelerated care as you age. Our skin doesnt produce new cells at the same pace and environmental and biological factors greatly impact how we age. Products that allow for cell management (creams, for instance), would be your best bet. You want to focus on those products that contain ingredients like Vitamin B complex, flax oil, Green Tea (Camillia Sinensis) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Rice Peptides, Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Alpha-Lipoic Acid...
If you smoke I would suggest stopping, if you cant I would suggest Active-CR and Active-SPF (for all the antioxidants). Smoking accelerates the aging of skin, so quitting now is important for good skin health. A well-balanced diet--with or without a multivitamin--helps the skin get the nutrition it needs to help repair ongoing damage from the sun and other environmental elements.
There are many topical non-prescription and prescription products currently available that help maintain and protect your skins health. Ask your doctor or skin care specialist which products and treatments are best for you. 2. a price point that the masses can readily afford
3. a easy system that is sustainable for long term results That's why Bratis Co-Founded Active Skin Formulas, to not only fight wrinkels, but actually protect and repair the skin. Exercise for Weight Loss
By Gabe Mirkin, M.D. When people start an exercise program, some lose a lot of weight, while others lose nothing. An effective exercise program for weight loss should 1) be continuous, 2) use all of your major muscle groups, 3) include one intense workout a week for each muscle group, and 4) be done on land, rather than in the water. Stop-and-start exercises, such as lifting weights, do not require that you use your muscles continuously enough to burn a lot of calories. Activities that use just one muscle group, such as doing situps or pushups, won't help you to lose a lot of weight because the stressed muscle groups tire quickly so you can't exercise very long. Exercising at a leisurely pace won't help you lose a lot of weight either. You burn calories while you exercise and after you finish exercising. Intense exercise raises body temperature which continues to be elevated and burn more calories for several hours after you finish exercising. This also explains why swimming is not the best exercise for weight loss, because water conducts heat away from your body so fast that your temperature does not rise. When you exercise on land, air insulates your body so your temperature rises. Pick sports in which you can exercise intensely, but don't exercise very hard in one sport more often than once a week. Every time that you exercise, your muscle fibers are torn slightly. You can tell this has happened to you when you muscles feel sore on the day after you have exercised. If you exercise intensely on days when your muscles feel sore, you are at increased risk for injuring them. If you want to exercise vigorously every day, you should choose two sports that use different sets of muscles, such as cycling and rowing. One Diet to Lose Weight, Lower Blood Pressure and Cholesterol, and Prevent or Control Diabetes. 10 Mindsets Students Must Have To Be Happy And Successful
By Maria Pascucci 1: You Must Ditch Your Inner Perfectionist As a driven student, you value high grades and the accolades that come along with them. And you should be proud of your accomplishments! However, if striving to be the best is starting to feel like a burden too great to bear, maybe its time to set some more realistic expectations. According to a recent survey of high school students in Palo Alto, California, 49 percent of students say a B is a bad grade. As a former straight A student who graduated from college with a near-perfect GPA, I can tell you that a few Bs or Cs would not have ruined my career. In fact, lowering my super-high expectations would have made me a more well rounded student. It certainly would have made me a more relaxed student! If you dont know how to begin setting realistic goals, try talking to a trusted family member or consider making a trip to your campus counseling center or your guidance office. With a trusted adults help, you can begin to ask yourself questions like, What does it mean to be a successful student? What does it mean to be successful in life? Does happiness and good health factor into the equation? If so, perhaps you and your family and school can devise a plan that will allow you more balance and peace of mind as you work to develop a strong sense of self. 2: You Must Love To Learn When youre not so focused on grades, you can begin the important task of learning just for the sake of learning. Always wanted to take a music elective but could never squeeze it into your schedule? Make the time! Learning can and should be fun. Ask the most influential leaders in our world what the keys to success are and theyll tell you that a lifelong love of learning tops the list. 3: You Must Be Passionate Love English and History but afraid you wont be able to turn your passion into a viable career? Maybe youve read about the top 10 fastest-growing careers and you figure youll give one of those a try instead. In a recent interview, actor Jesse L. Martin said, There are no safe jobs. Find something you love and do it despite the economy. Dream big and choose a career path based on your passions. Trust me, your passion will impress your future employer WAY more than any polished resume, perfect GPA, or name-brand college ever could. 4: You Must Have the Courage To Fail When I was in high school, I took a photography class and Im NOT a hands-on person. I struggled with it and I wanted to quit. In college, I received a B on my first paper for a Shakespeare class and again, I wanted to quit. Each time I stuck it out and Im a better person for it. Want to know the right path to take in life? Meander down a few wrong paths first. That right path is waiting for you somewhere along the way. 5: You Must Be Creative Every student is unique and therefore, brings something completely new to the table. That is, if youre brave enough to be yourself in a world that seems to value conformity. Ask any good teacher what they need to see more of in the classroom and theyll say students who arent afraid to be creative. Good teachers dont want you to regurgitate their words back to them on exams. Speak up in class, spur some interesting discussions, challenge a teachers opinion and be prepared to back up your argument with your own creative ideas. That lesson in boldness will carry you to success beyond your wildest dreams. 6: You Must Focus If you could forget for one minute what your friends demand, your teachers require and your parents expect of you, what would you want for yourself? What picture of success do you envision that would make you happy? Wrap your mind around that picture. What does it feel like? Look like? Sound like? Freeze that picture in your mind and work to achieve it. Dont be afraid to change that picture of success though as you grow and learn new things. Being brave enough to change directions based on new information and experiences is what growing up is all about. 7: You Must Surround Yourself With Positive People If your family wants you to be happy and successful on your own terms, turn to them for support. If your friends lift you up, make it a priority to spend quality time with them. Cant find anyone who gets the authentic you? Go out there and find a support network. Reaching out to other writers and creative types was the most inspiring thing Ive ever done. 8: You Must Think Big! I love to think big! After years of being afraid to tell others my big ideas for fear of sounding stupid, Ive learned how fun it can be to watch someone shake her head at my latest project. So what if the world doesnt get it. My 19-year-old brother makes customized wrestling action figures and sells them on E-bay for extra cash. Think the relatives understand that one? Charlotte Burley, a writer/producer in New York City, says, If anyone tells you that you cant, use that to make you want to reach your dreams even more. 9: You Must Practice Self-Love Self-assured men and women know that self-love is the key to success. No, that doesnt mean posing in your bedroom mirror for hours and basking in the glow of your own vanity. It does mean making your body a priority though. Like choosing to take the time to nourish it with healthy food, getting adequate sleep and exercising. Practicing relaxation. Perhaps finding the strength to quit smoking or having the resilience to never start in the first place. From one high-achiever to another, good health is an achievement to be VERY proud of! 10: You Must Have Fun After complaining to a former professor about my lack of time to enjoy my college years, he advised that I take a half hour each day and live deliberately. Take a hike in the woods, ride your bike, go for ice cream with friends. If you can learn how to balance work and fun before you leave your school years behind, I guarantee that youll lay the foundation to realize that happy life youre working so hard to achieve. And that, dear friends, is what true success is all about. Maria Pascucci is the President of Campus Calm (http://www.campuscalm.com).

The Healing Arts: Exploring Heart-Consciousness, Part 3; It's In Your Blood
By Russ Reina Picture yourself in nature and so long ago that nothing that looks like *man* as we know it has made its mark. Even you arent quite sure just how smart you are! Compared to the predators that hunt you, you suspect youre even a little slow on the uptake. Your kind has not even developed the language to talk about the experience. You are one of the aboriginals, the first people, and you are of this land, indigenous to it. Learning -- because your elders dont quite have the words -- is based on observation. You live by your senses and your relationship with the moment. Sure, you think about things, but not much. The moment is much too important to your survival, and the more you think, the less time you have to act. In this world, action is survival. This is so out of step, you may say, With what life is about now. Okay, test something out. Go in to a forest or wilderness area far away from home and the road, to a place youve never been. Do it on a moonless night, alone, and do it without having anything but the clothes on your back. Walk deeper into the woods. You will will get in touch with an important part of who you are as a human being the same core that lived inside your distant Grandparents lives inside you today. You will immediately switch into a reliance on what you feel rather than what you know. You will take in cues from your external and internal environments and respond to them. As soon as the moment comes that you experience a feeling of rightness in your chest, you will take the action that that feeling dictates. When you follow your gut, you are responding to a feeling of knowingness having little to do with the analysis of a preponderance of information. When you are tuned-in to the moment, you are gathering in impressions and then allowing them to coalesce into a choice. Where do you literally feel this sensation of rightness? From what place do you move? Somewhere a lot closer to your heart than your head. The reliance on information over sensation for survival is a relatively new development in our species. Even living within the idea that we are separate from our environment (as opposed to the experience of being an integral part of it and not perceiving a separation) is a culture that even today exists in only a relatively small part of the world. Every person who relies on nature for his or her survival moves from a sensation-based (a heart-centered) way of being first. This is not to minimize the importance of the brain, it is meant to offer you perspective. You, who are reading this, are simply part of a culture that has forgotten how to do this. If you have any doubts, take a look at the remaining indigenous cultures, like Lakota, Maori, or Inuit among others. They are the remnants of what had once been an unbroken line of a heart-centered way of being. Certain differences between them and us are evident, including their relationship with the environment, non-reliance on verbal communication, cosmologies that are nature-, rather than personality-based, a certain lack of guile, cultures of sharing, and perhaps most telling of all, relationship with time. Our ancestors did not have enough information to know just how much the brain does. Somewhere within, they knew where the decisions were made. Our ancestors only knew what felt right. The implications of this to our lives today have nothing to do with either/or. Clearly each way of being has its merits. The species has survived. The brain and heart are meant to work in unison. They come from the same source. They are complementary. They need each other. What Im doing this minute is working with your brain to help you gain access to your heart-consciousness. Once there, you will learn that localized consciousness is able to access and utilize the thinking power of the brain. The challenge of today is to more consciously move from one to the other and use the result for the benefit of all. What we are learning today, and what this series is about is that, #1) There is a difference between the consciousness of the heart and the consciousness of the brain, #2) They are able to work in intimate communication, and #3) We can choose which state of consciousness will take the lead at any one time. It has been a natural part of evolution that our brains took the reins for a while. How else could we get to learn so much about ourselves from a nuts and bolts perspective? Ironically, the use of our brains has brought us the facts that tell us it is not alone when it comes to being a center of consciousness. The next installment will examine the role of relationship in heart-consciousness. A Hip-Hoppin' Home Dance Party
By Gail Leino Why go to the club or bar-hosted party when you can have one much better yourself? There are many great reasons why you can have your dance party at home instead of going to bar hosted events. Some reasons are:
1. You and your guests save money.
2. There will only be people you invited.
3. It is safer.
4. You and many guests will feel more comfortable.
Many students are deciding to drop the lame bar-hosted events and have their own dance parties at home. When you do this, you have control over what happens at your party and not some strangers or some business. You can make the party when and how you want and invite who you want. You can choose the food, the music and even the lighting and decorations. What are some ways you can spruce up your dance party and make it a memorable one? Budget is going to play a role in what you are able to do but some must-haves are always music and lighting. In addition, you will want drinks of some sort and probably some type of food. You might offer snacks such as chips and party mix in bowls or you may hire a full-out catering service to host the party. If you have a bigger budget to spare, you can get professional lighting or even throw your own foam party. For music you may hire your own DJ, have a friend DJ, set up a karaoke machine or play CDs. There is also software and music CDs available that allow your own dance party music or even let you have your own DJ so everything is fully customizable. Think of all the fun you will have with your own beats and your own friends in the safety and comfort of your own home as well. Mrs. Party... Build Confidence with Strategies that Really Work
By Peter Murphy Wouldnt it be grand if we could just wake up in the morning, brush our teeth and put on our confidence for the day? Well, for those of us who dont have a drawer full, here are 4 simple strategies that will help you build confidence. 1. Accentuate the positive. Be your own best friend. What do you tell a friend whos tried something new, whether or not it turned out well? At least you tried something new- good for you! Accentuate the effort it took in doing something, rather than the final outcome. (Youd do it for your best friend, wouldnt you?) We all have limitations. The key is to accept that you have them without dwelling on them. 2. Dont be afraid to take some risks. When you are about to embark on a new experience, do you spend your time worrying so much about the outcome you arent enjoying the moment? If you look at new things in your life as a chance to learn something, it opens up the possibility of you becoming good at that something. If you spend your time dreading the outcome, youll turn any opportunity there might have been into a failure. Whats more, we cant grow when we are frozen with fear. Dont set yourself up to fail. If you do, look at number one, again! 3. Use self-talk to keep assumptions away. We all use self-talk. The key is to use it in a way that we dont form bad thoughts that can lead to permanent doubts. Catch yourself using negative self-talk and cancel it with something positive and not based on assumptions! Build confidence by not expecting perfection from yourself at all times. You can only do your very best at something. Nobody can do everything perfectly, so why do you assume that you should be able to? 4. Learn to rely on your self-evaluation. If you always rely on the opinion of others, youll always be wondering what they think! That does nothing to build confidence - it tears it down, by giving away your personal power to others. Focus on the real you, inside, to find out how you feel about your own actions, how youve been doing your job, etc. Youll be developing a strong sense of who you are. Its important to remember that no one can be self-confident all of the time. In fact, youll build confidence faster and easier once your realize that. Most people with low self-esteem or who lack in confidence are that way because of unrealistic expectations. They expect more from themselves than they do others. A person with low self-esteem will think nothing about calling him or herself a stupid idiot. They wouldnt dream of saying that to someone else. Body Wrap Treatments - Can Body Wraps Really Help You Lose Weight?
By Ian Mason Can the body wrap treatments that luxurious spas offer really help someone lose weight? Yes they can, but they cant help you with fat loss. These glorified sweat suits are supposed to make you lose a minimum of 6 inches after a simple one hour session. They often claim to heal various skin problems, to detoxify the body, treat acne, improve circulation, alleviate muscle and joint pain, and tighten the skin, but they offer little more than the discomfort of dehydration since that is all that is happening. This is no different than wearing a sauna suit during your workout, which is only asking for extreme dehydration and coronary trouble. Really, its no different, just substitute the suit for temporary mummification with clay and epsom salts smothering your skin. The skin needs to be exposed to air in order for it to evaporate and effectively cool the body down, otherwise your body keeps gushing sweat in a desperate attempt to restore normal body temperatures. So, dont be surprised if you drink back all of your lost inches within a few days, if not within the same day, because that is exactly what will happen. Heres how body wraps claim to work. You first apply bandages or wraps that have been dipped in your choice of substance. Many use sea clay, while others use seaweed, herbal mixtures, mineral mixtures, or aloe vera. Once you are wrapped, this is when your pores begin to open and the detoxification process begins. The aforementioned substances are what absorb all of the impurities. Next comes the second stage of the process, often times called squeezing. This is when the bandages come into play. At this point, the empty interstitial spaces, which are nothing more than small compartments between the cells, are now mashed together in order to create a tighter, smoother look. Some claim that if you can maintain the compacted shape then your cells will actually adapt to the new shape. And voila! You are now thin! Right??? Its not quite so easy unfortunately. One thing that is amusing about some of these products is that they recognize the importance of staying hydrated before, during, and after the body wrap session, which is great, but they also like to remind the buyer that you can have several a day and be fine. So, in other words, as long as you get wrapped several times a week, you will never see your body return to its actual shape. Its a lot like those memory foam balls. As long as you periodically squeeze it, the ball will never return to its original shape. Its just too bad that it will often cost you as much as $110 for only 32 treatments. That is the price and the approximate treatment number as given by www.bodywrap.com. As far as how often one decides to wrap, this could mean once a week for some, while many companies like to clarify that it is perfectly safe to even have several wraps a day. Lets take the middle ground. If one were to have four wraps a week, then you would be paying $660 a year for virtually nothing. Its an expensive game of pretend when you could go join Golds gym and pay about $35-45 a month. It is certainly cheaper to do honest, hard work to lose the weight as opposed to the other option of mummifying yourself for an hour a day covered in fancy mud only to achieve empty, fleeting results. To me, its a no brainer. Learn more about which is the best diet for your permanent weight loss at PhenForum.com, the best site about Phentermine and healthy weight loss online! Chill Out With A Summer Time Marketing Plan
By Bonnie Jo Davis Is your business experiencing a summer time slump? Traditionally only industries related to travel enjoy a boost in business during the warmer months. The rest of us tend to take vacations, clean up our desk and while away the time playing computer games while we wait for business to pick up. Summer time can and should be a time when business owners prepare for the marketing they will do for the rest of the year and handle tasks they have been putting off when business is brisk. Some of the marketing tasks that can be handled during the summer are:
Turn previously dead leads into sales. Contact everyone who expressed an interest in your product or services but did not follow through. They may have more time to consider your offers during the summer and you might be able to reach them more easily if their secretary is on vacation. Create and begin to market that newsletter you always planned on starting. Write a press release related to summer time activities and send it to appropriate newspapers both on-line and off-line. Ask a few business associates to review and offer suggestions about your marketing materials. Update your materials to get them ready for the busier times ahead.
Next start getting ready for the future with the following tasks:
Write at least twelve articles related to your business and have them proofread and edited until they are polished. You will submit one article each month for the next year to appropriate publications. Create a web site marketing plan. Research web site promotion on the internet and create a list of items that you can work on for the next several months. Develop several contests for your web site visitors and newsletter subscribers that you can run regularly during the year. Prepare advertising text, rules and decide on prizes. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce and offer to speak at a fall or winter event. Write your speech and practice it until you feel comfortable working without notes. Research and budget for e-zine and newsletter advertising for the next twelve months. Set up a tickler file to remind you when to submit and pay for your ads.
Grab a glass of lemonade and get started on using the summer months to your advantage. Implement just a few of the ideas in this article every summer and watch your sales soar all year round!
